Frederick County Public Libraries
We are excited to share the latest progress on the new West Frederick Library, a vibrant, community-focused space in the Hillcrest neighborhood. The design phase is moving ahead!

Please join us for the next Community Meeting! Mark your calendar for Monday, November 17 at 7 p.m., when we’ll gather in the Hillcrest Elementary School cafeteria. This is your chance to hear about where we are with the project, ask questions, and help us to continue to understand what matters most to you--our future neighbors in West Frederick!

WE HEARD YOU!

At our last Community Meeting in February 2025, you shared your thoughts and ideas and voted for the features that matter most to you in the new West Frederick Library. For those who couldn’t attend in person, we offered a digital option so every voice could be heard. Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of the community, including a large number of students, we have a vision of what matters most to the community. Here are the results:

Your top 3 priorities for design features:
  • Children’s Activity Area
  • Exterior Reading Garden
  • Computer Area
Your top 3 wants for design features:
  • Large meeting space
  • Smaller study spaces
  • Teen gaming area
We also learned that what you love the most about your community are the people themselves, particularly the diversity represented.

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE WEST FREDERICK AREA

Hillcrest Orchard
Did you know that 501 S McCain Drive was once part of Hillcrest Orchard? Owned by E Dwight McCain, the orchard primarily grew apples, with peaches also in the mix. It operated from the early to mid-twentieth century.

So Many Languages!
At least 37 languages other than English are spoken in homes around the future West Frederick Library site. The most common language is Spanish, followed by Farsi/Persian/Dari, Burmese/Myanmasa, and French. This data is provided by FCPS through the Multilingual Learners Program.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Rover has been visiting West Frederick every other Friday this fall, bringing the library experience directly to your neighborhood! During each visit, children and caregivers have a chance to meet our librarians, check out books, sign up for FCPL library cards, and discover the wide range of services and materials we provide.

Come see us at Hill Street Park for one of our next stops!
